Mise consideration (Gabrielle Chambers)

Our Film is a Romantic Drama so we have had to consider the mise from other Romantic Drama films and what mise they have used and how we can incorporate the same ideas in our film. Mise is a vital part in a film as it gives the audience hints about what is going on in the film.

Mise is divided up into 4 different sections; Lighting, Location, Costume and Props

Lighting
As a group we have spoken about how we wanted our film to look and what lighting would be the best. We decided we wanted the lighting to be low so it looked romantic etc. When we got to the restaurant we chose the booth that had the ideal lighting for what we needed. Also in lighting we want the scene where the male is in the restaurant with his wife to be brighter and the scenes with the mistress to be darker as this represents evil and mischief so it helps the audience know what has happened.

Location
We wanted to make sure we chose the best location for shooting our film that portrayed the film in the best way and also looked effective. We looked at many locations near and around Chelmsford (Where we live) and we came up that we wanted a restaurant to set part of our film as it was the romantic setting we wanted. We looked into many different restaurants and decided that our best chance was with Pizza Express as this provided us with the location we wanted and the best setting we could ask for. Also we wanted to have the second part of the scene filmed at Chelmsford station and it represents a get away and this is what the husband sees it as a get a way. We used the train station aswell as it looks modern and smart.

Costume
We wanted the male to be dressed in a smart black suit, we especially wanted it to be black as it represents danger so the audience can clearly see that the male is perhaps up to something which this then becomes clear when we see the phone. Also we wanted the male to be dressed preferably in white to show purity and innocence but at short notice we couldn't get a white dress so had to improvise and go for a green dress. We still believe that this has similar connotations to the white dress. And finally we wanted the mistress to be fully in black to represent that she is a danger and she also matches the male to show a clear connection to them both.

Props
The main props we used was the phone to show the audience the text messages from the mistress and also to show the male character as sneaky and mischievous. We also had the props that where in the restaurants; The wine glass, The cutlery, Plates etc. Another main prop we used was the watch to represent that the female is starting to become impatient with the male.

It has helped to consider the mise as we know what the best mise we must use and how it has been effective etc.
